After pounding out 26 hits in two games, the Astros' recent celebratory cry of "Boom!" was more of a bust during a frustrating Saturday night at Minute Maid Park.George Springer's solo home run in the sixth inning and Alex Bregman's solo shot in the ninth were the only hits of any variety for the Astros in the wake of a 14-hit barrage in Game 2 and 12 hits in Game 3.The Astros were held in check for 52frasl;3 innings by starter Alex Wood, who allowed Springer's homer off the faccedil;ade above the Crawford Boxes but otherwise befuddled the Astros before turning the game over to the Dodgers' bullpen. Manager A.J. Hinch said the Astros' offense was different in Game 4 in part because the lefthanded Wood presented a different challenge that the Astros were unable to solve. "Wood is different in general - different arm angle, different mechanics, and we hadn't seen him before or a ton. But it looked like he was teasing the strike zone a little bit," Hinch said."We were a little aggressive. He pitches very well down in the zone. He threw a couple of high fastballs, but for the most part he really settles at the bottom of the zone, with pitches that move. He's got a little breaking ball, a little changeup, keeps you honest with his fastball." Brandon Morrow and Tony Watson followed Wood out of the Dodgers' bullpen to handcuff the Astros into the ninth before turning the ball over to closer Kenley Jansen, who allowed Bregman's homer."It's part of the game," said shortstop Carlos Correa, who was hitless in two at-bats with a walk. "They're a great team over there, and we're not going to come to the ballpark thinking we can take it this easy. "We have to earn it, and it's not going to be in five games. It's going to be in six games. Hopefully, we can go out (Sunday) and play baseball and have a better approach."With four homers in Game 2 and Yuli Gurriel's solo shot in Game 3, the Astros had ample opportunities in the last two games to greet each other by exchanging cries of "Boom!" and spreading their arms to demonstrate the sudden power of their offense.Springer's homer, the first hit off Wood, appeared in the sixth to be among the biggest potential blockbusters, bringing the crowd to life and giving the Astros hope of stretching their World Series lead to 3-1.But that was it until Bregman's homer in the ninth as the Astros stalled while the Dodgers' offense pounded their bullpen."They pitched well. He (Wood) threw the ball well," Springer said. "He lived down and didn't make a lot of mistakes, and they were able to kind of slow us down and he threw his game."Of his homer, Springer said, "That was one of his mistakes. He left it up over the plate, and I was able to hit it."Hinch said Springer's upbeat personality carried him through a rough stretch at the plate, a vibe the Astros hope continues as the rest of the lineup tries to right itself."He's just been very disciplined in the strike zone, getting pitches to hit and doing a really good job of calming himself down and actually not trying to do much, and he's doing more by just letting the game come to him a little bit Jake Marisnick Jersey," the manager said. "I think success often relaxes guys, and you track the ball a little bit longer, and you hit the ball to all fields."Springer said he took away some encouragement that the Astros put some hard-hit balls into play that didn't go their way in Game 4. And now, after facing an unfamiliar foe in Wood, they face a familiar, daunting opponent in Clayton Kershaw for Sunday's Game 5 against Dallas Keuchel - a rematch of Game 1."He's our guy, and between him and (Justin Verlander), we have the utmost confidence in those guys," Springer said. "They're confident in their guy (Kershaw), and it will be a good game."
